Buffett stated that he would like to donate more than 80 percent of his fortune to charitable causes. He increased the percentage to 99.9% in 2020. Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, created by Bill Gates and Melinda (the Microsoft founder) was the main beneficiary. The foundation was focused on education and health in the world. Bill and Buffett had been close friends since the 90s. The three Buffett children as well as the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation (named after his wife) were among those who received donations. They focused on women's reproductive rights, funded scholarships for college students, and also additional charities. In 2010, Buffett and Gates created the Giving Pledge. This pledge invited other wealthy individuals to contribute a significant portion of their fortunes to charities.
